I had always wanted to visit Asia since I was little. As I got older, I decided to make my dream a reality. However, I had a dilemma facing me. With so many countries to visit, I could only choose one. In the end, I chose Japan. This was mainly due to a long-standing interest in Japanese culture. I am also a huge fan of karate, so I decided to see where it all started. Before I headed on my trip, I knew very little of the life and culture in Japan. When I got back to Melbourne, I had a lot of new things to share. If you plan on going to Japan, follow my tips to have a good time.
Know Some Japanese
You should always know some of the language when traveling to a foreign country. I made sure I knew a bit even before I started searching for Melbourne to Tokyo flights. It makes no sense to start off searching for direct flights, cheap flights or holiday packages when you can’t even speak the language. Once you land, you won’t find many places where English is spoken. You’ll have to rely on the Japanese you pick up on before you board your cheap flight from Australia.
Prepare Your Phone
As I prepared for my trip, I made sure to unlock my cellphone. I was travelling on a budget, and planned on buying a Japanese SIM card to use in my phone. Aside from buying a cheap travel package, this was one of the smartest things I did. Using a local SIM card saves you a lot of money on calls. If you don’t think you’ll need a phone, think again. I used my phone to check domestic flights bookings, tourist attractions and to call home. I even used it to pick up some cheap travel insurance while I was on the road. Amazingly, I was able to buy my SIM card at a vending machine just outside of the airport. It’s really that easy!
No Visa Worries
As an Australian traveling to the Japan, I didn’t have to worry about a visa. Japan allows Australians to stay in the country for up to 90 days without a visa. This is more than enough time to see everything Japan has to offer. It also saves you a lot of money knowing that you already have to spend on international airfare. I used the money I saved on a visa process to book holiday packages.
A Fun Trip
Traveling to Japan was a memorable time. This is not to mention that Melbourne to Tokyo flights are equally enjoyable. If you follow my tips, it will be a lot easier for you. Also remember to get some cheap travel insurance to be safe. Going to the doctor in Japan can be extremely expensive.
